RYAN CENTER EMPLOYEES RAISE $775 TO SUPPORT THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

(KINGSTON, RI- February 8, 2010)- This past Saturday, Global Spectrum and University of Rhode Island employees at The Ryan Center participated in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association's (AHA) National Wear Red Day. Employees who donated $5 wore red and “dressed down” during the URI Men's Basketball to support the AHA. The staff at The Ryan Center raised an incredible $775, exceeding their initial goal of $250!

National Wear Red Day honors the lives lost to the millions of Americans who suffer from heart disease and hit close to home in October 2009 when David LaProva, former Operations Coordinator at The Ryan Center, passed away from a heart attack. LaProva was an invaluable asset to the Global Spectrum team at The Ryan Center for seven years before his unexpected death.

LaProva was one of the sixty-eight million Americans who undergo some form of heart disease. Each year, over one million Americans have a heart attack and almost one million Americans die each year from cardiovascular related illnesses. This figure accounts for forty-one percent of all deaths in the United States each year.
